What is spinal facilitation?
when a group of neurons get into a state of partial or sub threshold excitation so that it takes much less afferent stimulation to cause them to fire
What is sensitization?
this is a gradual increase in motor response due to an increase in stimuli. this is caused by repeated stimuli from the sensory nerves that influence the efferents on the same level. this is most common with high rate and high strength stimuli.
What is habituation?
this is a gradual decrease in motor response secondary to an increase in stimuli. basically, the efferents are firstly overactive because of continuous stimulatory influence by afferent, but then adjust to and equilibrate to that response to where they actually respond less. so it is more difficult to get these neurons to excite fully and fire. this is most common with increased rate and weak stimuli.

What is the host/disease paradigm?
Host + Disease = Illness

balance the host and focus on the dz to reduce the illness. tx host and tx disease to eliminate the illness
