What is the study of Physiology?
• studying the function of the structures
What is Gross or Macro Anatomy concerned with?
• The study of large body structures visible to the naked eye
• Heart • Lungs • Kidneys |
How is regional anatomy studied?
• Everything within a region of the body (muscles, veins, bones) are studies at the same time
How is systemic anatomy studied?
• Body systems such as the cardio vascular system, immune system ect. are studies at the same time
• When studying the cardiovascular system you would study the heart and all the blood vessels of the body |
What is surface anatomy?
• The study of internal structures as they relate to the over lying skin
• Used when locating bulging muscles beneath bodybuilders skin • Used when locating blood vessels in which to feel pulses and draw blood |
What is microscopic anatomy?
• Deals with the structures too small to be seen with naked eye
• Slides with body tissues studied with Microscope • Includes cytology and histology |
What is cytology?
• Has to do with cells in the body
What is histology?
• Has to due with tissues in the body
What is Developmental anatomy?
• Traces structural changes that happen to body throughout life
What is Embryology?
• A subdivision of developmental anatomy
• Concerned with changes before birth |
What is palpitation?
• Feeling organs with your hands
What is auscultation?
• Listening to organ sounds with a stethoscope
What is renal physiology?

• Kidney function
• Urine production |
What is Neurophysiology?
• Explains the workings of the nervous system
What is cardiovascular physiology?
• Examines the operation of the heart and blood vessels
What does the principle of complementarity of structure and function mean?
• Function reflects structure,
* what a structure can do depends on its form |
Give two example of the principle of complementarity of structure and function.
• Bones can support and protect body organs because they contain hard mineral deposits
• Blood flows in one direction through the heart because the heart had valves that prevent backflow |
