Clinical interviews
Theses interviews take place in a therapeutic setting - in a Freudian sense it is lead by the patients thoughts and comments rather than a set of questions
Example
This method is typical of dream analysis and free association. Freud also used this method when treating Anna O who her cured of paralysis after in surfacing her repressed anxieties about her father
Strengths
- Rich qualitative data as the patient is likely to explain why they feel the way that they do. - facilitates communication sue to the fact that is an informal interview the patient is likely to feel more relaxed this meaning they are unguarded and show more emotion and reasoning behind their thoughts
Weakness
- it is difficult to analyse the data due to the fact that it is qualitative and therefore personal to the patient this meaning trends cannot be produced. - subjectivity the researcher may be keen to guide the interview and analyse it's data in a way which supports their hypothesis
