Cell Wall
Protects, shapes, and and supports the cell. It also contains peptidogycan.
Cell Membrane
It regulates the movement of molecules in and out of the cell.
Cytoplasm
It allows movement through the cell (diffusion). Contains DNA, ribosomes, and organic compounds. It helps give the cell shape and structure. Made out of mostly water.
Nucleoid region
The area containing genetic information/DNA which contains essential information for life and reproduction.
Ribisome
It's the site for protien synthesis.
Plasmid
It's a single ring of DNA which replicates independently. It doesn't contain essential genetic information.
Capsule
It's a protective layer on the bacteria. It allows attachment in some cases.
Endospore
It's the resistant coating/wall which protects the cell against harsh conditions.
Pillus
It assists in attaching to surfaces(?) and aids genetic recombination during conjugation.
Flagellum
It's a tail-like organ that makes a whipping motion that causes movement.
Chromatin
Contains DNA and proteins found in the non-dividing cells (uncoiled chromosome)
Rough ER
Holds ribosomes that produce proteins and stores and transports protein within the cell
Smooth ER
Lacks ribosomes, produces sex hormones in the gonads (ovaries and testes) and detoxifies alcohol and drugs in the liver
Golgi bosy
Modifies, sorts, and packages molecules produced in the ER (protein and lipids). It is also involved in the transport of lipids around the creation of lysosomes.
Lysosome
Carries out digestion of food and worn out cells (w/ enzymes). Can also cause cell destruction ie. cell suicide
Mitochondria
Site of cellular respiration, produces the cells energy.
Vesicles
Small sacs for the transport and storage of molecules. Come off Golgi Body.
Vacuoles
Story enzymes, nutrients, water and wastes
Cytoskeleton
Make up the cell's skeleton for support and movement of organelles and substances within the cytoplasm
