Emily Bronte is an English novelist and poet. She invented imaginary worlds with her siblings, including her poem "Remembrance". Bronte was a part of the Victorian period, which was a transition between romanticism and the 20th century. Using the Reader's Response Theory in "Remembrance" will show the meanings and symbols of the poem. It gives a gateway to the reader to express what they think the story means and how they can relate.

The Victorian Era was named after Queen Victoria. This ranged from 1837 to 1901, Victoria's death. The Era consisted of strict conduct and morals. If a man were to call a lady by her first name they were considered engaged. The period was characterized by the struggle of working people and success of right over wrong. "Anne, Charlotte and Emily Brontë had time in their short lives to produce masterpieces of fiction although these were not immediately appreciated by Victorian critics" ("Victorian Literature"). Emily's novel "Wuthering Heights", for example, had violence and passion which wasn't normal during this time. Women, during this period, would think of the novel as Gothic Romanticism. The Victorian Era was created to be a moral lesson but to have an opinion as well. Also, during this era gender inequality was big. Therefore, Emily, Anne, and Charlotte created poems under male names. This was because women writers were classified as inferior to male writers.
