Zibanejad: A Short Story

Mr. Zibanejad slowly handed back the grade 10 English test to his students. He was an experienced teacher, so he was having fun, making the students wait in dread for their most important test results of the year. Scott Zibanejad laughed to himself, he had been teaching for close to twenty years, yet he still didn’t realize why the kids fussed about the exams. One student in particular was very worried. His name was Steven Steele. Steven was a bright student, and did great on his homework. Despite this, he struggled on tests and was a C average. He didn’t like the feel of the classroom. In his mind, classrooms were hot, claustrophobic and loud, which in turn, made concentrating difficult. As Mr. Zibanejad slowly handed back the tests, Steven started sweating. He was worried. Finally, the teacher arrived at his desk. Mr. Zibanejad unhurriedly dropped the test on Stevens desk with his lanky arm. It read 52/98. Steven was not surprised. Upon arriving home later that afternoon, Steven pulled out his English homework which focused on verbs and …show more content…
Zibanejad asked Steven to stay afterschool. Steven was worried that he’d done bad on his homework, but, in fact, it was just the opposite. His teacher congratulated him for doing so well on his homework. Then, Mr. Zibanejad went on to ask him why he did so poorly on tests. Steven replied by uttering,” I work better outside” to his teacher. Scott Zibanejad understood. In his long teaching career, had had a few students who worked better in a different classroom environment. Scott himself found it hard to concentrate in such a loud, rowdy room. He came to an agreement with Steven. Mr. Zibanejad would give him a chance to write a test outside, and if he did well on it, Steven could continue to write his future tests in the open-air. Steven was ecstatic. He finally had a chance to redeem himself. Steven Steele looked forward to school on Monday, which was the day of his verbs and adjectives
