Zaroff Civilized Analysis

The word Civilized means the way people act toward each other. Or how advanced you are at something. Evidence from the story shows that Zaroff considers himself civilized, Rainsford considers himself civilized.
“you see, I read all books on hunting published in English, French, and Russian.”(45) What this means to me is he thinks that he knows a lot about hunting because he reads books in different languages. Im sure for many people this may be Apathy to them because, when you think of hunting you think go out in the woods. But to zaroff this may be different because he is reading books about hunting in different languages. Although this may be Astute doesn’t mean just cause he reads the books he knows what to do when he is hunting.

The second characteristic that Zaroff can be classified, as is that he is cunning. The first reason is that Zaroff has built his own traps to capture and kill his prey, “Then he felt an impulse to cry aloud with joy, for he heard the sharp crackle of the breaking branches as the cover of the pit gave way; he heard the sharp scream of pain as the pointed steaks found their mark.” (Connell 56) This is what Rainsford was thinking because the Generals best hunting dog had just fallen it to his own trap and died, but Zaroff is impressed with the fact that he made the trap. The second reason that Zaroff can be considered cunning is that he does not miss the trails that his prey took ”Something was coming through the bush, coming slowly, carefully, coming by the same winding way Rainsford had come.”…
