You Are My Best Friend Vs. The Once

When analyzing the differences between the song “You are my Best Friend” by Queen and the cover performed by The Once, it may feel almost incomparable. Although the formal structure of the cover follows the same form of the original, the tempo varies. The cover is sung slower which gives the song a differing emotional response than the fast-paced rock song. Personally, I find it difficult to compare the recording production between the performances. When comparing the technology between both bands, it is hard to compare the quality of their recorded music due to the varied in ability of equipment at the time of recording, however, I do not think that The Once or Queen has added very many editing effects if any. Examining the instrumentation,

I feel that the films Places in the Heart, the Long Walk Home, and the Mighty Macs compare and contrast, but the film Paradise Road does not give enough information of the women as spouses to compare and contrast. In the film Places in the Heart the main character Edna Spalding was the perfect wife, until her husband died. The film first introduces Edna Spalding when she is serving dinner to her family and her husband, who was the sheriff was called to handle a situation where he meet his untimely death. When Edna’s husband died she told her sister Margaret that she did not know what to do because she never worked and she did not know how much she would have to pay on the house. She admitted that her husband provided every that was need and that she only know how to take care of the house and children.…

In my opinion, this story is about control. Emily's father controlled her life while he was alive and in turn she controls his by not wanting to release his body so that he could be buried properly. Emily wants to also be in control over Homer so she poisons him. This story is similar to the story "One of These Days" by Garica Marquez because both of these stories kind of revolves around "power" even the townspeople wanted to have power over Emily like the Mayor wanted to have power over the Dentist and vice Versa, but Emily refused to because she felt as though she had the power. Ths story is not told in any chronological order to me because the story travels back and forth in time keeping the reader captivated until the end of the story.…

Very few famous performers nowadays can integrate showmanship with their music. In the 70’s a musical group by the name of Parliament took the music world by storm with their out of this world appearance and their own rendition of Funk music. Parliament was one of the key pieces in the development of funk music and modern music as well. They created what we know as P-Funk today that was a key element of the foundation of Hip-Hop. For my concert report I analyzed Parliament’s 1976…

The Great Gatsby is a book almost every high-schooler in America has read. It has been adapted into a movie five times, but the film versions from 1974 and 2013 are the two most well-known versions. While both share similarities in dialogue, setting, and plot, there are notable differences in the portrayal of the main character, accuracy to the time period the book took place in, and the opening scene that sets the tone for the entire movie. While both versions of The Great Gatsby have phenomenal casts, both lead characters have been portrayed in similar ways with different characteristics being the focus. Robert Redford was cast as Jay Gatsby for the 1974 version of the movie, and he one-hundred percent looked the part.…

Women use literature to express how society views them. The song “Just A Girl” by No Doubt and “The Yellow Wallpaper” by Charlotte Perkins Gilman were written one hundred years apart from one another but still share a lot of similarities in themes. Both the song and the Story explore themes of women being restricted, controlled, and dismissed. The Yellow Wallpaper is the narrator writing about what is happening to her while going through the rest cure in a journal that she hides from her husband.…

Introduction In 1983, when Cyndi Lauper released “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” on her album She’s So Unusual, it garnered so much fame that it became one of the most well-known feminist anthems in the country. Several artists covered the song in subsequent years, and Lauper herself released a remastered version. However, few people are aware, even today, that the song is a cover version of Robert Hazard’s original demo, recorded in 1979 but never released officially (the demo is currently available on several media platforms, including YouTube).…

Concerns have been raised in the 21st century about the young adult’s slowing transition into adulthood. Robin Henig discusses these concerns in her article “What is it About 20-Somethings?” by writing on the topic of emerging adulthood, a period before adulthood that sociologists believe may be a new distinct life stage. Henig addresses the idea that young people in America have put off the traditional milestones such as completing school, leaving home, becoming financially independent, marrying and having a child. More recently, technology and the use of social media have become popular and prevalent among young adults and children, a point Maria Konnikova brings up in her article “The Limits of Friendship.”…

Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World and Kazuo Ishiguro’s Never Let Me Go both portray dystopian societies and seem to deal with the question of what it means to be human. In Never Let Me Go, a group of friends grow up at a seemingly idyllic and peaceful boarding school in England. Once they leave, they discover the cruel purpose of their existence, which threatens their relationships. Brave New World depicts a society where human life is almost completely industrialized, and humans are created inside of labs and conditioned to perform specific roles in society. In Never Let Me Go, an isolated society is established where humans are cloned solely for the purpose of providing organs for their normal counterparts and therefore live relatively short…

The recording career of the Beatles from 1962 to 1970 can be divided into 3 different style periods, namely: the early period, the middle period, and the late period. In order to analyze the remarkable changes in style that took place throughout the band’s historic recording career, one must look at each period individually. According to Tuomas Eerola (10), in order to do this properly, the solution can only be obtained by classifying the works of these musicians into a number of recording projects. Thus, the use of an intermediate level between a song and its period of recording portrays changes in its style of music in a more accurate manner. The first period includes all of the albums that the Beatles recorded between 1963 and 1965 including…
