Let’s look at the history of the Yasukuni Shrine and better understand why the Japanese people and government officials are visiting the shrine in the past and still in the modern world. Despite many Asians countries are disapproving the shrine because it is seen as a tribute to those that harm millions of people in various countries. The Yasukuni Shrine was known as the “Shokonsha established at Kudan in Tokyo in the second year of the Meiji era (1869) by…Emperor Meiji. In 1879, it was renamed Yasukuni Shrine.” (Chiyoda). The Japanese people visited the shrine because it “has become the place that houses the memory of Japan’s wars and the heroic spirits... gave their lives to the nation” (146 Harootunian).
