Introduction
Communication is important in every part of our lives. Miscommunication can cause problems between coworkers, family members, and friends. Proper communication ensures everyone is on the same page and things flow a little easier. That’s why you want to make sure you are getting your message across as clearly as possible. The purpose of this memorandum is to provide Ms. Barton with some information the process of communication in the workplace. For this interview I asked Keller eight questions which are as follows: What is your best childhood memory? If you had a chance for a "do-over" in life what would you do differently? Written communication allows an individual to communicate a message with clarity and ease to a far larger audience than through face-to-face or telephone communication. Many professions require their employees to write a report, write a business proposal, and write a grant application or press release, written communication is an integral part of every profession. I asked Keller “What kinds of written communications, print and electronic, are used in this job?” Keller responded by saying “As a Paramedic we are required to use both print and electronic written communication. In the field when we get to a scene we have to write up our Patient Care Reports. Patient Care Reports include all the information about the patient we receive from the dispatcher as well as the information we obtain on scene as well as in transport to a hospital” (personal interview). Keller states “These reports contain information in regards to any safety concerns we come across, what care and procedures were done, transport time, what medications were given both oral and intravenous, as well as documenting the patient’s vital signs.” Keller states that when back at the station “The Patient Care Reports are scanned then uploaded to an online database” (personal interview). Once the Patient Care Reports are uploaded paramedics, nurses, and doctors have access to the reports. Other ways written communication is used by paramedics as Keller states are” by email as well as text message”. A second question I asked Keller in regards to workplace communication for Paramedics was “What are the goals of this document, and how are they written?” Keller responded by saying “The goal of these reports is to document everything we see and do when we get on scene for an emergency.
