I’ve never worked as hard or as passionately on my work as I have done this year, and my new found way of doing my work is what made me grow as a student. As a reader, I was able to advance my way of reading, considering how I read way more into the text and note patterns too. This is probably because you manage to drill into my head the sort of guidelines needed in order for this to happen, such as if an author thinks something is important he’ll repeat it. Due to these lessons, I changed how I wrote my essays since I became even more invested in my writing. And I became a bit more confident in my writing due to my friends who complimented my writing and you who believed in me and in my writing.…

Over the course of English 102, I have developed a new set of skills and learned to become a better writer. When I first came into English 102 I struggled with many different concepts of writing. During the semester in English 102, my writing became stronger because I learned how to incorporate evidence into my argument, do more thorough research, have smoother transitions, and have more organization throughout my essay. I learned how to peer review better and to take what others say and incorporate it into my essay. In the beginning, before English 102, I struggled with good organization and flow to an essay, sandwich evidence into paragraphs, and having strong arguments in persuasive essays.…

I am still not that good at it, but I noticed that I started thinking more about the choices I make when I write. For example, I began my summary of Thonney’s “Teaching the Conventions of Academic Discourse” with a point of view she disagrees: “Thonney points out that some scholars deny the idea that there are set rules to academic writing.” I thought this would be more effective than talking about her ideas, then bringing up the opposing opinion, and then coming back to Thonney’s thoughts again. I wanted the paragraph to have a strong structure because that way it is more effective and easier to understand. This is definitely an improvement.…

In my few years learning intense reading and writing, I feel that this English 101 course will help me expand my skills. I hope to gain some good attributes for my writing and reading abilities. A few attributes I hope to learn are: composing more professional documents, writing a paper that will convey my whole idea, and how to purposely use imagining purposes to my full advantage to gain better attention from my audience as Sarah R. Stein mentions page five in the DK Handbook (2013). By working hard on these abilities, I can foresee how my end product will develop into a higher intense writing. As I browsed the DK Handbook my first impression of this course was the same as a high school class I took.…
