First, the introduction should consist of three to five sentences. Within these three to five sentences, the writer should provide the reader with what he or she is writing about, the relevancy of the topic, and the audience for the paper. The importance of this paragraph is to draw the paper together by summarizing the three topics. This paragraph should end with a clincher sentence. A clincher sentence could restate the thesis or it could ask the reader a question about the topic that will leave the reader pondering.
