Such decisions can help you focus and guide your writing, making it more clear to the reader. Taking feedback, properly analyzing it and making the right choices can greatly improve your writing as shown by Hewett (59-81). In addition, in my experience, feedback has been a great tool in guiding my writing and how I prepare for it. Being open to feedback can broaden your capacity. However, it is important to understand that not all feedback is useful for you and learn how to judge it. In the text “From Topic to Presentation: Making Choices to Develop Your Writing”, Hewett uses one of her writings to exemplify how to make decisions based on the feedback you receive (59-81). The first change she made was based on the comment of a student asking for a more specific date. She decided that it would be a good addition to the text because adding a date can contextualize her piece (66). By the same token, she also argued that some feedback …show more content…
Likewise, ever since starting college I have received significant feedback from my instructors and all of them have helped me improve. As an example, when I started my English course the instructor asked us to write a diagnostic paper to show our current knowledge of writing. I received a lot of great feedback on that assignment and was able to notice a recurrent problem of run-on-sentences, which made my texts exhaustive. As a consequence, I managed to work on my punctuation and paid close attention to it when writing my next assignment, which helped me get a full grade. In addition, according to Hewett, positive criticism “can be useful by reinforcing what they are doing well” (70). That being said, it has been my experience that when my instructors reinstate what I am doing well it motivates me to continue to improve my

On May 20, 2016, my adviser and I sat down to have a discussion about the university required courses and courses that was mandatory for the Liberal Arts college. English 101 was one of the classes I chose to take my first semester because I knew I had more knowledge on writing efficient papers because of my previous AP English courses in high school. In high school, I was always told that I was an adequate writer because I knew the basic of connecting ideas that provided a clear concrete understanding. However, the only time I received an unsatisfactory score was when the information I included in my paper was unorganized. Also, another reason I chose to take English my first semester instead of my second semester was because I knew I needed…

After finishing the English 101 course I feel like I have accomplished many of the goals that I was challenged with the beginning of the course, such as critically thinking and reading with text from the textbook “Dialogues” by Gary Goshgarian, substantively replying to my peers to understand their point of views from the text and to get a better understanding of a rhetorical argument. Thinking and reading critically were very important this whole course. Thinking and reading critically were something you would have to do in every assignment that was given. Incorporating it in every assignment has helped us greatly improve week by week and betters our understanding of each topic and the assignments main idea.…

I will also be integrating feedback that suggested that I scale back my story. I believe that I have had a difficult time with this one because I get too focused on the details and description of the scene and/or characters. I am going to, "Take a slice of it out and focus on that" and remove, "prose" kind of writing.…

Critical reflection Reflecting back on what I have learnt about myself as a writer is that it is okay to be aware of your weaknesses and using the necessary tools to support and strengthen them. As a writer it is good to step outside of your comfort zone and experiment with new genres. Let your writing take you on an emotional journey, and let your emotions lead your writing into a new journey. As a writer you need to expand your vocabulary and use powerful descriptive words to really create a mental image for your readers. I have learnt to understand the importance of sentence structure, drafting, and proof reading and not over using commas creating sentences that are too long.…

Final Exam: Self Evaluation Essay I personally can say that I have seen an improvement in my writing since my initial evaluation in the middle of the semester. During my first evaluation I was very confused with many of the general concepts the class held and it reflected in my writing. Answering the questions presented in the midterm evaluation and reviewing my first writing assignment Meta commentary pushed me to try to grasp a better understanding of assignments and ask for more helpful feedback that would benefit me in developing writing especially in the concept of methods and organization. Slowly and surely as the rest of the semester progressed forward I saw an improvement in my writing style and content.…

Throughout this semester of English 101, writing has become more of a skill than a struggle. Writing was a challenge that I dreaded when I chose to be in the course, nonetheless with time, I learned from my mistakes and was able to improve. This course made me very doubtful on whether I could be capable of even writing a paper that would provide me with a decent grade, but at the same time made me push myself in my writing technique. In the end, I can reflect that I learned from my mistakes and wrote papers that took time and dedication to accomplish. I learned from this class to be confident in my writing and make all the mistakes to receive the grade I want in the end.…
