The Radiology site specializes in treating and diagnosing diseases and injuries through the use of imaging such as x-rays, CAT scans, MRI’s , and ultrasounds. The personnel there is willing to walk someone through the procedure, and happy to answer any questions. The radiologic technologists (RN’s) are there to help ensure the patient receives the best treatment possible for the best possible results. They make sure both the patient and themselves stay safe from too much exposure radiation, and that if contrast is needed, the correct dose is given. Depending on what type of patient it is, sometimes there are monitors to check the patient's vitals as the scans are being done. While radiology does not seem the place where many different professional would be at the same time, it is quite the opposite. Depending on who the patient is, and what their health is, there could be up to many different people there. For example, there was one a patient with TB (tuberculosis) receiving steroid iliac injections. In this situation it was critical for all the people there to communicate, the radiologic technologist, the nurses, and the doctor performing the injections. The nurse and the doctor would talk the patient throughout the procedure, while the radiologic technologist would operate the imaging. Standard safety procedures include proper radiation exposure. Health care professional cannot stand in the path of x-ray, they must stand stand behind lead lined screen. There should be no pregnancies, and the radiation film badge should be monitored. This badge measures and records radiation exposure. The therapeutic procedures I observed I included the steroid iliac injections which help relieve pain and inflammation on the iliac
