The typical reproductive tract in male mammals comprises the testes and related epididymis, Vasa deferentia, accessory sex gland complex, urethra, and penis. The accessory sex gland complex is composed of the ampullary gland, vesicular gland, coagulating glands, prostate gland, and bulbourethral glands (7). Nevertheless, not every mammalian order possesses all of the glands (8). There has always been meticulous attention to the study of reproductive organs (2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10, 19). Numerous studies have been conducted on the physiological function and morphological structure of reproductive organs in a large number of species. In spite of this, little or no attention has been devoted to Persian squirrels, a wild species indigenous to Iran. Obviously, they are vital for wildlife conservation. The Persian squirrel (Sciurusanomalus) is the only famous species of the family Sciuridae in the Middle East. This species spreads from Greece through Turkey, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia, Iran, Palestine, Iraq, Lebanon, Jordan, and Syria in coniferous as well as temperate mixed forests (Harrison and Bates, 1991). As was mentioned, Persian squirrels are a wild species; however, since some people keep them as domesticated animals, their referral to veterinary clinics is on the increase (Khazraiinia et al., 2008). As a consequence, it is required to realize the morphology and physiology of Persian squirrels in order to better manage them in confinement.
