He decided that the one thing he wanted to do with the rest of his life was to be a wrestling coach. Ben’s competitive nature helped bring him to his current occupation. His college coach, Steve Costanzo, helped him decide that he wanted to be a coach and he even helped Ben get his first head coaching job. After multiple coaching jobs he found his way back to his home town of Fremont. When he is not up in the Fremont High wrestling room, he is teaching psychology. “Psychology definitely helps with coaching, especially when it comes to motivational psychology and understanding that the mind can be your greatest ally or your greatest enemy,” said Wilcox. He uses his knowledge from psychology to help prepare his athletes for the challenges they are going to face in this sport. He had a successful high school wrestling career and had a tragic early end to what was going to be a great college career. He believes that everything he has accomplished in his life so far is because of wrestling, such as his education, his career, and even his marriage. The life lessons and characteristics that can be taught by wrestling will help people be successful with the rest their lives.
