Wound Injury: A Case Study

DOI: 10/31/2014. This is a 41-year-old male customer care supervisor who sustained injury to his left quadriceps and knee when he slipped on mud and landed on his knee. As per office noted dated 7/15/16m the patient spoke with Durable Medical Equipment (DME) company last week. It was noted that the patient is still waiting for brace. The patient is doing physical therapy and home exercises. There is frequent knee popping noted as well as difficulty with stairs. There is pain with initiation of flexion. He uses cane regularly, and there is positive buckling noted. It was mentioned that there is symptoms of depression. Objective findings revealed positive crepitus; range of motion of 0-120 degrees; positive lateralization of patella; very tender

During this experience, I was able to witness the removal of a wound VAC (vacuum assisted closure) and surgical stitches, different methods of wound monitoring and discussed the healing process. For new admissions, the Wound Care Team does a physical examination of the body, looking for any wounds, bruises, scars, tubes and IV placements. They take pictures, measurements and note the location of the wound.
