For these purposes, I scheduled and conducted a site visit. This visit was essential as it helped me observed the initial point of contact with clients. At this office visit, I had a pleasure of meeting with the CEO, a staff member, and a caregiver of a client suffering from dementia. The office is not spacious but the space is appropriate for conversations and engagement. The office although small allows caregivers a place to come in and express their concerns in private. Often the person with dementia does not come to the office visit and if they do they are monitored while the caregiver speaks with a staff member in private. This allows the caregiver to be more open as they can freely express themselves free of guilt. In addition, I would expand the program to provide respite care for all clients. Studies have shown stress associated with being a caregiver. I would like to eliminate some of that stress by providing temporary relief for caregivers for a day or an extended amount. This would eliminate some stress for caregivers and allow them to get some down time. This is important because if they caregivers are stressed they cannot adequately provide care. Also, the stress that caregivers face may transfer to the aging adults and make them stress knowing their physical health has declined and they are no longer able to care for themselves.
