In my experience, following three of the many strategies have allowed me to work in a fast-paced environment. The three strategies include: efficient listening and data collection, prioritizing and time management, and the ability to use task management tools. Managing the projects while dealing with on-going urgent matters required the use of above approaches to more and less extent. For instance, I was involved in an employee return to work meeting. During the meeting, I was informed of a workplace injury that potentially could have been a critical injury. As a result, I was required to immediately leave for the site where the injury had happened. On my way to the site, I was constantly on the phone with the site management, actively listening and collecting information. These information is required for effective “scene management”. Post scene management and ensuring employee wellness status, a risk assessment was completed, followed by tasks to meet the regulatory standards. These tasks required assigned timelines and priorities. Urgent matters, may require re-prioritizing of tasks which can be easily done with a time management tool such as a Microsoft Outlook.
