Word Theory Vs Evolutionary Theory

In today’s society, many people have good educational background however the usage of words sometimes did not match up to an individual’s knowledge. This can be seen using the word theory, especially in evolutionary theory. People usually refer to a theory as a guess and fact as the truth. However, according to the National Academy of Science, a theory is “a plausible or scientifically acceptable, well-substantiated explanation of some aspect of the natural world; an organized system of accepted knowledge that applies in a variety of circumstances to explain a specific set of phenomena and predict the characteristics of as yet unobserved phenomena.” On the other hand, a fact is “referring to a scientific explanation that has been tested and …show more content…
This shows how speciation occurred. The fossils records have few of the transitional form that shows the missing link between two species due to the nature of terrestrial environment. The example of this was the discovery of Tiktaalik which is the missing link between fish and amphibian. In his Your Inner Fish book, Neil Shubin wrote that when he brought the fossil of Tiktaalik to his son’s preschool class, and asked the children what the creature was. He got some five years old children arguing, “No, no, it isn’t a crocodile, it is a fish, because it has scales and fins. Yet another child shouted, “Maybe it is both (Shubin, 25).” Tiktaalik fossil is clear to whoever see it because as Shubin noted in his book even five years old children knew this creature is the link between fish and …show more content…
Greener mentioned in his article that creationists argued that the eye is too complex and cannot evolve. He used the eyes of octopus and trout as an example because both have altered lens composition eyes. Through convergent evolution the camera eyes work well for these organisms. The author further wrote, “ The ancestor of the octopus and trout were selected for because these changes to their eyes conferred increased fitness to the organism-they were better able to see, escape predators, and find food…no design was required, only the natural selection of a series of advantageous mutations (Greener).” The gain of the camera eyes allowed the octopus and trout to navigate their way around better but their eyes are not necessarily the best. There is no designer because life is not perfect. Even with advance eyes like human’s eyes and octopus’ eyes there are disadvantages. Olsen wrote that eyes of human and eyes of octopus independently evolved. He added that an octopus has no blind spots but they can only see in black and white due to the lack of cones in its eyes. In contrast, we see color within the visible spectrum (400nm-700nm) but we have blind spots. This example shows how natural selection presents advantageous and disadvantageous to organisms, which have nothing to do with a designer, because eyes of octopus have more advantageous in saltwater due to a cup-like eyes and a vitreous

Fossil record can be described as the collection of the remains of past life. Furthermore, theoretical evolution is considered theoretical because the process of natural selection in times before the development of science can never be fully or concretely proven; only theorized. Taxonomy would be explained as the branch of science regarding the classification of organisms. Paleontology is considered to be the greatest source of empirical knowledge in terms of understanding the history of life.…

The argument from design, or teleological argument, is an argument that states everything in the world is made just so that we can manage to live in it, and if the world was ever so little different we could not manage to live in it” (Philosophy 57-58). In 1802 William Paley’s introduced his own argument where he compared the complexity of living things to the complexity of a watch. Just as a watch would not be able to exist without a watchmaker, Paley argues living thing would not be able to exist without an intelligent designer. More than a century later Bertand Russell delivered an argument in which he used Darwin’s Natural Selection theory to argue against the argument from design.…

Introduction Theory and the biopsychosocial-spiritual framework are vital components in social work practice. By having an understanding of these two aspects, social workers ensure that they are taking appropriate actions while considering the entire context of a client’s situation and needs. This is particularly applicable when working with older adults, who benefit greatly from a holistic approach towards what is a unique and often misunderstood stage of life.…

Fossils provide a record of biological history. They are a source of direct evidence for questions regarding an organism's evolution. Without fossils it is difficult to document phylogeny because there is no way to know the extent of an organism's history or to determine the age of anything. The DNA and the leftover traces of chemicals such as carbon and fluorine in fossils gives essential information about the organism's life, physiological makeup, and environment. Fossils allow for history to be understood chronologically, as records preserved in the earth's strata.…

Writing Assignment #1 Lasiognathus dinema There are a couple misconceptions you might have about evolution and natural selection. The strongest and most important organisms do not survive over the generations. Although evolution occurs due to fitness in an individual or individuals of a species, an organism cannot survive over generations. Fitness is achieved through variations in populations of species through genetic differentiation (Scottville “n.d.”). Since the life cycle of all living organisms is to be born, survive, mate, and die, it is impossible for an organism to live through several generations.…

Some residents, mainly the parents of the ninth grade students who insisted their beliefs on Darwin’s theory sued the school board for enforcing the teaching policies of including the intelligence design theory in the science classes. 2. This is particularly important in concepts that involve past events, which cannot be tested. Take, for example, the Big Bang Theory or the Theory of Biological Evolution as it pertains to the past; both are theories that explain all of the facts so far gathered from the past, but cannot be verified as absolute truth, since we cannot go back to test them. More and more data will be gathered on each to either support or disprove them. The key force for change in a theory is, of course, the scientific method. A scientific law, said Karl Popper, the famous 20th century philosopher, is one that can be proved wrong, like “the sun always rises in the east.”…
