Woodwind Music Essay

The piece opens with a long low somewhat ominous blowing in the woodwind section. The string section accompanies the woodwind, building the shadowy dark tension. Gradually this sound builds and builds into a great rumbling crescendo. The music then gallops off from there into a cheerful frenzy that rises and falls like dancers in a colorful dance. It is played predominantly by the strings along with woodwind. The feeling is light and happy. A slight rolling in the percussion builds excitement. The music goes back and forth. One end is a grand rolling of percussion, strings, trumpets and the other end is soft strings and graceful pieces of solo woodwind instruments. The music swings into one of its grand crescendos then the music slowly peters

For this assignment I am going to be analyzing the piece “Cherry Pink and Apple Blossom White”. The writer Prado was called “The King of the Mambo” and according to Rolling Stone he was responsible for helping popularize the Cuban- originated genre in America with this particular song. The song itself is very rhythmic and upbeat with a couple of different ideas throughout. The first idea (Idea A) is repeated twice at the beginning of the piece up until :36. Idea B is then repeated twice until :53. At 1:03 a piano enters the chorus, and then at 1:51 a flute enters and gives a lot softer of a feeling to the music.…

For this assignment, I had the challenge of analyzing the attributes and meaning behind Mozart’s Marriage Of Figaro - Overture. Something that I found very interesting was that there isn’t much repetition throughout the song. There are about 7 or 8 different ideas that are present in the entirety of the song, all very different from each other. It took me a little while to notice because all of the ideas fade into each other so masterfully. To begin, the piece begins with a lot of instruments playing all at once to create a heavier, rich texture.…

The music has a celebratory quality when the strings are playing their fast paced but legato sound. The strings sound very happy and are almost jumping for joy. They flow and do not pierce the ear. Conversely, the music has a dark and ominous quality in the timbre of the loud horns. The loud horns pierce the flowing strings and blast the ears with doom.…

I was the founder and concertmaster of the school woodwind quintet in the 2014-2015 school year. Convinced that a small wind ensemble would further showcase the talents of the school’s most prodigious woodwind players, I called upon several musical students in the school to form this group. Our goal was to be able to perform the woodwind quintet arrangement of Debussy’s “Petite Suite” for the Spring Music Night in May. We set a weekly rehearsal time and I handed out each person’s music, stressing that they practice the notes and rhythms in advance, in order to ensure that we used our limited rehearsal time more effectively. I encountered several large stumbling blocks over the course of the year in my drive to attain this goal.…

The musical piece Flight of the Bumblebee is an orchestral interlude from opera The Tale of Tsar Saltan written by Rimsky-Korsakov in 1899 based on the poem of the same name by Aleksandr Pushkin. It comes as the prelude to Act III, where a prince rescues a swan which is attacked by a bumble bee. The composer professionally used instruments of the orchestra to create pictures from the story. The musical piece is a programmatic music in ternary form that is representing the sound of a bumblebee. The strings are heard buzzing hurriedly about at the outset, brilliantly conveying images of a busy bee racing about.…

The strings came out very strong and the theme of nature was brought back to life. The clattering sounds are the violas and cellos using the bow technique of Col legno. The trio was tender and even a tipsy feeling, with glissandos for the strings and dissonant harmonies for the winds, and then the heroic feeling triumphs once again ending the second…

This piece has “characteristics of classic sonata form, and is similar in energy and length to such concert overtures as Shostakovich’s Festival Overture.” As with a typical sonata form, the piece is broken down into five main sections. The first introductory section features the opening horn fanfare and a full ensemble crescendo into the exposition. Starting at measure four, the first theme is articulated with tutti figures thru many different instruments. Immediately following that in measure twelve, we hear the inversion of that melody in the clarinets and alto saxophone. The inversion is then repeated in the upper woodwinds and in the cornet.…

To open the piece, Haydn uses F# with descending arpeggios against syncopated rhythm in 2nd violins. The piece starts with an unsettled tempo to reflect the use of sturm and drang. Sturm and drang is also displayed through the urgency of repetition of the motif, which also uses thematic unity. The tempo and dynamics in the piece change rapidly continuous use of accented notes. The use of chromaticism in woodwind sustained chords suggests ambiguous tonality which reflects the sturm and drang quality.…

What is a woodwind instrument? The woodwind instruments are instruments that produce sound as a result of air flowing through them. Instruments that belong to this family include the oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon and flute. While all of the other instruments mentioned are actually classified as reed instruments because that is the way that the air flows through them, the flute is an instrument that makes its sound from air being blown across an opening. The openings are closed or kept open depending on the notes that the flute player would like to produce.…

The flute originates from Germany. No one knows specifically when in the prehistoric times but evidence has shown that a flute which was found in pieces was about to be 38,000 years old. Non like the violin it did not evolve from another instrument, it is said that many pieces of the flute were found in a cave in Germany called the Geißenklösterle Cave. Sound is produced from a flute by blowing onto a sharp edge, causing air enclosed in a tube to vibrate. The flute used to be an instrument made of wood but present, the instrument is made of metal.…
