Woodrow Wilson set the tone for his presidency in his first inaugural address. In that speech, he outlined the issues facing the nation in terms of what was right and what was wrong. As the son of a Presbyterian minister, Wilson tended to view the job of chief executive as a moral responsibility.
He began his tenture with tremendous energy, and the first two years of his administration were extremely productive. During that time, Congress passed some of the most progressive laws of the era, beginning with the Underwood tariff.
During the 1912 campaign, Wilson
