In America alone 80 million movie tickets were sold every week, this equated to one out of two individuals attending a movie on a weekly basis. The films that were being shown in the 1920’s were different to the films shown prewar. Prewar the actresses were ladylike, innocent and requiring a man’s protection. The movies of the 1920 contained females that were independent, confident, dressing in more provocative clothing and enjoying herself equally to a male. The leading female actress would be a smoker, enjoying her drinking and loved to dance. These women were the role models for the women going to the movies. Also the movie were normalizing this modern women and making her more appealing to the public. Women of the 1920’s were participating in culture to a much greater extent than ever before. Women were now big consumers in the economy buying fashion, products and entertainment. They were also taking part and enjoying leisurely activities like their male counterparts including smoking, drinking, dancing to jazz. Woman were also expressing themselves sexually which had never been done before in time. The Women of the 1920’s lives changed for the better in many ways. They were the first women to vote, be able to influence politics, educate themselves and follow their interests regardless of the field. Women of the 1920’s were able to work outside of their home and make an income. They dressed in a way that was not as restrictive as previous generations and could follow the trends.
