In ancient China, woman were treated very harshly. They were viewed as property, were treated as inhuman, and had a lack of leadership. Females were treated this way because it was traditional and even if they didn’t like it, they were used to it.
Women have long been keeping society’s values in their roles as wives and mothers. They had to obey their fathers, husbands, brothers, and sons. In ancient China, women were not allowed to voice their opinion. They had to go along with whatever the men said. The responsibility for women remained harsh while the expected values changed from very early in history to today.

For example, in 697 BCE, the daughter of a minister learned from her husband that the ruler had ordered him to kill her father. She decided to go tell her mother. After her mother advised her that, “All men are potential husbands, but you have only one father,” she decided to tell her father. Her father killed her husband after she told him about the plot. The ruler put the blame on her husband for telling his wife (Viajes 1).

They were also not able to have prostitutes or concubines. There were no more arranged marriages and women could choose their own husbands. The widely recognized four main indicators of women's development in China are health, education, employment, and the level of political participation.
Women enjoy the equal right of economic allocation, the decisive right of household administration, equal guardianship of children, and reproduction right in families. The new aspects gave women some self-confidence. They were encouraged to join the work force, follow educational opportunities, and become a communist official. From the 20th century until today, women’s rights have been changing in China. Chinese women have been treated more equally, but there are still people who do not agree.
Women were treated poorly in Chinese history because they were viewed as property, were treated as if inhuman, and had a lack of leadership. Mostly this has changed since 1949, but there are still violations of the rights and interests of women workers. Not just for China but for all countries, we should learn not to go back as it was before in the Chinese history and learn to make the conflict that still exists over women’s rights
