He even ends up being late for his own performance and only realizes this when he hears his music being played without him! One of my favorite parts of the movie is in the first few scenes. It is funny to hear an older Salieri tell the story of when he first saw Mozart. In the movie he had asked the question “Does talent like that show on the face?” He is browsing through the people trying to see if he can tell which one is the famous composer whom he seems to idolize. Until, that is, he realizes that the one who is making, what some would call “crude” jokes and hiding underneath a table is, in fact, Mozart. He is shocked that someone who composes such beautiful music could be that same fool he saw crawling around on the floor. I love the message that “you can’t judge a book by its cover” shows in this part. The truth to this is that, while Mozart was known to be a fan of such humor he did not actually show this side of himself to people who were not in his close circle. It is fascinating to see this story of Mozart through the eyes of someone else. While there is a great deal of the movie that is made up and based on false rumors, it is still very interesting. Even though it was part of the story that wasn’t true, I found myself feeling really sorry for Mozart at the end of the movie. I thought it was really sad to see him when he was sick, and then to have Salieri there with him, knowing that Salieri wanted him to die so he could finally get some recognition. It seemed that Mozart did care about his opinion and that Mozart thought he was his friend when he really wasn’t. After watching the movie, I can honestly say that I not only had to, to write this paper, but I really wanted to find out more about Mozart and Salieri. I honestly stayed awake thinking about this movie and things that I wanted to look up for over an hour after it was over. In the end, I loved the movie and I would watch all three hours
