Consumer facing technologies include things such as social media and websites WFA, along with all of its competitors have websites that include information on their events, how to submit a film, and contact information so you can get in touch with them as easily as possible. It is important for these companies to a website that is easy to navigate and works well. Corcoran discusses how “studies have shown that if a given site’s pages take more than thirty seconds to download, [one] is not likely to return” (21). Along with making sure an organization’s website is up to par it is a good idea for them to link all of their social media accounts. Social media is an effective strategy for connecting customers and companies. Clark suggests, in an article published in 2015, that social media provide a form of “organic” communication (38). Clark also discusses how companies can use social media, such as Facebook to freely advertise for themselves (38). In this specific industry often times these organizations have sponsors and in an effort to provide a strong relationship business to business, the film award sites can create hyperlinks to their sponsors, along with their logo. Another example of how technologies are enhancing this industry is advertising sponsors or events on an app, if the organization has …show more content…
Metz, a writer for PC Magazine, interviewed indie filmmaker Scott Dacko. Dacko explained that when budgets are low filmmakers were turn to cheaper alternatives, and if not edited properly the film will not be of the highest quality (80). Bad quality films will only further diminish a cheap crowd in times of economic downfall. The industry would also suffer funds and organizations will be unable to effectively advertise their festival. Changing consumer trends, including both demographic and psychographic trends, are also affecting the industry. Demographic trends show that the populations in cities all around the world are growing, Richard Burdett displays that during 1900 only 10% of the world lived in cities and it is expected that by 2050 75% of the world will (42). With this information film festivals know exactly where there are a lot of people, and with this information they can figure out where to place themselves. For example McDonald argues that the greatest increases in population have been found in southern California and New York (2). Demographics also show that diversity is becoming more prevalent in these cities; the US Census Bureau found that New York City has over eight different ethnic subcultures. Due to these growing results festivals will watch to feature different cultures and styles into their events, as WFA does. Psychographics are also important for the industry to pay attention to.
