Conflict is something we deal with everyday, whether it is in the workplace or at home. Often with conflict comes a series of emotions; fear, anger and frustration, are a few of the emotions that exist during conflict. According to Merriam Webster, conflict is defined as "strong disagreement between people, groups, etc., that results in often angry arguments". The book, Interpersonal Conflict by Wilmot & Hocker, defines conflict as, "An expressed struggle between at least two interdependent parties who perceive incompatible goals, scarce resources, and interference from others in achieving their goals". As you can see the definitions are similar, but the textbook definition goes into more depth. One thing we should keep in mind when dealing …show more content…
Knowing I'd be covering his expenses for a short period of time, I gave Danny a month or so before he would have to move out. Things did not go according to plan. Danny's job did not require him to go to the office, rather he can work from home, especially since he had no form of transportation. His job was to oversee our tutors, increase sales, and provide managerial customer service when need be. Unlike Danny, I worked from the office, and every time I would come home, he would be watching a movie or playing video games. At first I let it slide, and figured maybe he was doing his work earlier in the day or he was just managing his time very well. By the end of September, I asked him for a report as to what he had completed and he had nothing to show for it. I wasn't bothered by the fact that I as spending money, I was bothered by the fact he was not doing anything productive to better himself and I was funding it. I was definitely irritated at the time I had the talk with him, but had I not asked him to leave he would have continued taking advantage of me. Since December, when I asked him to leave, he has avoided talking to me. I have sent texts and left voicemails but he seems to want to avoid the conflict or anything that reminds him of it. I would say the conflict was harmful to our relationship, and i was told by his brother that he is now living with someone else doing the same thing he did with me.
