Can you imagine what our former president, William Taft, had to yell when he got stuck in the white house bath tub? Well we may never know, but we can learn about Taft, his presidency, and the life in 1908.
The life of William Howard Taft was a very simple, yet very impressive. He accomplished alot throughout his life. Which all started September 15, 1857 in Cincinnati Ohio.(Biography.com)
Since Taft was one of the earlier presidents he had a lot of firsts that other presidents didn't get to achieve. Although a lot of presidents loved to play golf, Taft was the very first to play it as a hobby while he was in office. The 27th president of the United States of America held office from 1909-1913. (The White House) While in office Taft worked on race issues. He endorsed to free immigration as well as a president veto on a congressional law imposing a literacy test on all unskilled laborers. (Biography.com) Taft also supported Booker T. Washington's initiative to “uplift” african american citizens. (Biography.com) Also Taft worked on issues involving money. He ended up imposing an corporate income tax. (Biography.com) He also raised a national revenue more than thirteen million dollars while in office. (Biography.com) Which would be a lot of money back in the day. Taft did a good job in keeping everything in check. Financially Taft busted more trusts over his four years in office than roosevelt did during his 8-year administration. …show more content…
Taft was one of the last presidents that had cattle on the white house lawn. The cows provided the first family with milk and butter. (Barber 36) The cow's milk and butter must have been pretty good due to the fact that Taft was the heaviest president weighing over 300 pounds.(Barber 36) After his years as a president he became a professor of law at YALE university. (Biography.com) Where his love for law got put to use. Taft as the great president he was, sadly didn’t get to return for a second term in office. He officially left office on March 4, 1913, defeated by the other candidate Woodrow Wilson, who was a democrat. (Biography.com)
Sadly the great william howard taft died March 8th, in the year of 1930. (Barber 36) He was the first president to be buried in the Arlington National Cemetery. (Biography.com) Williams wife, Nellie, was also the first lady to be buried at the Arlington National Cemetery. (History Lesson)
