Register to read the introduction… In Beowulf, the author states on Page 41, Line 689 that when the dragon came, “The people suffered, everyone Lived in terror, ...” The story remains the same when wildfires come near human settlements. Obviously, society should expect an extreme wildfire to occur once or twice a year, but with wildfires so commonplace they burn millions of acres every year, there has to be change. According to www.nifc.gov, since 1960 there have been four years where wildfires have burned over 9 million acres, and all four years have occurred in the past decade. This change is akin to having a dragon that goes out and burns a couple villages every few years, to all of a sudden there are multiple dragons going out and burning villages every …show more content…
During the battle with the dragon, the legendary hero Beowulf gets abandoned by most of his allies when he starts to struggle in the fight. Therefore, if it was not for one gallant hero, Wiglaf, Beowulf would not have defeated the dragon. “And then when Beowulf needed him most Wiglaf showed his courage, his strength and skill, and the boldness he was born with.” (Beowulf Page 47, Line 917). Consequently, this is the only battle in the entire epic in which Beowulf needed assistance. The battle against fire has always been one of man’s most dangerous endeavors, and when fire gets on the loose, it is almost unstoppable. Albeit, it is not effort that is lacking from American leaders in stopping wildfires, according to www.nifc.gov, Americans have spent at least 1.1 billion dollars in suppression costs every year for the past nine years. Undoubtedly, those leaders are not just throwing dollar bills at the fires. Evidently, the money funds many different groups of heroes. Collectively, the heroes are firefighters, but look closer, and there are copious amounts of factions that execute some very diverse operations. Just like the tremendous dyad of Beowulf and Wiglaf, these separate groups work together to complete the task at
