The Calgary Flood which occurred on June, 22, 2013 caused $4.8 billion dollars in economic losses (Reserved & News, 2013). The clean up bill alone came to $1.9 billion (Reserved & News, 2013). Global warming has not only affected individuals and the economy, but it also affected businesses. The Canadian Plains, beautiful barren lands, have had their risk of desertification to have increased by 50% due to recent conditions (2020, 2014). This causes unemployement of agriculture, abandonnement of farms and no fresh food on the table. In the span of three seconds, humans have caused all this upon themselves. But Canadians are getting on board to lessen the effects og global warming, nationally and globally. Companies are making themselves eco-friendly by using eco-friendly bags, fuel saving devices in cars, sfiting to renewable enery, etc... West Fraser Mills Ltd., a wood company has created a way to turn their pulp waste from from one of their factories, Slave Lake Pulp Mill, to electricity. By doing so, they use 7 less megawatts of electricity to annually to operate the mill (Alberta, 2012). This not only reduces natural gas usage by 164,000 gigajoules, but also cuts greenhouse gas emission by 45,000 tonnes per year (Alberta, 2012). West Fraser Mills has not only contributed their part in global warming, but they have created a futuristic strategy, that makes them ahead of the game and helps others follow the same trend. Chrystler Canada Inc., a car company, has taken a part in lessening the effects of global warming by replacing its control panels with smart systems that have improved heating ventilation and exhaust systems throughout their facilities. This strategy is a 27% reduction of gigajoules every single day in their facilities. And by doing so , they have reduced their greenhouse gas emissions by 9% at their factory.
