Wil Cruz: A Short Story

Improved Essays
It was a typical morning in Park City, Utah. Wil Cruz woke up to the sound of his alarm, at 5:30 a.m. and immediately looked out his window. Fresh snow had fallen overnight, about a foot or so, and icicles hung from the lip of his roof that almost reached the base of his house. He got out under the layers of blankets spread around his bed, and went to watch the weather channel. His best friend Jake was already watching, waiting anxiously for the report. “It’s another great day here in Park City, Utah.” recited the weather man. “It is currently 22° F, and a reported 10 inches of fresh snow has fallen overnight. However, riders should expect a bli-” Wil turned off the TV and jumped up and whooped with happiness. Jake did the same. It was perfect weather for the backcountry snowboarding trip he had planned with his friends. He grabbed his phone and sent “Perfect weather! After about 15 minutes of trudging through snow and the freezing cold air, they finally made it to a thicket of pines. Wil turned on his radio, but all he got in return was static. “Let’s set up camp here,” Wil said. “I doubt any helicopters will come looking for us, especially in this weather. Looks like we will have to stay out here for the night.” “Lets try and make some snow caves. We could sleep in those if it comes to that,” Jake suggested. “Good idea. We can use our boards as shovels,” replied

The following article entitled “The Blizzard of ‘93 Seeking to Save Cities and People; Michigan Students, Caught in Appalachian Snow, Learn Lesson in Survival” was initially published in March 16, 1993, written by Isabel Wilkerson.
