The play begins with Elphaba, the Wicked Witch of the West, born with green skin and rejected from society. She meets the popular and spoiled Glinda, the Good Witch of the North, at Shiz College. Glinda remains "good" because she doesn't have the courage to confront the wizard. Elphaba is actually very kindhearted, just deemed as "wicked" because of the use of manipulating propaganda from the wizard. We follow her life story and learn the truth behind her past. The play takes place in the fictional Land of Oz. The actors did an amazing job. They were all believable and truly made the musical magical. The fictional world was transformed into reality on set. All of the characters looked appropriately dressed for each act. Elphaba looked very professional and serious, and eventually wore all black to fit the style of a witch. Glinda, on the other hand, carried a light and girly style. The munchkins were all dressed as silly townspeople, and the residents of Emerald City were lavishly clothed in all green. Each character was suited perfectly, and it made the production very professional and put-together. This helped me understand the plot, and what each character was exactly trying to contribute to the plot. As each character matured and changed, I followed their transformation. The set was incredible. Each act had an elaborate backdrop on the screen, while various large props were used on the
