The issue with this is that many districts have a shortage of school facilities, and they are limited to the amount of money they can spend on each of these facilities. Should we have year-round school? Year-round school should be implemented in our school district. Three main reasons why I think there should be year round school is that, for one, it would help prevent long breaks that could potentially weaken students academically, and after the break, it would take a while to review. Secondly, the 9 month calendar we currently use was originally made based around when kids would go home and work on farms, but now, this isn’t a common practice. Lastly, teachers and students would benefit mentally from breaks spread out all throughout the year.…

It has been shown that schools with year round education have higher annual attendance rates in comparison to schools with a typical schedule (DeNisco, “Year-round schooling gains popularity.”). This leads to better continuity with learning and will result in minimal education gaps. For Beecher Community School District, switching to a balanced calendar meant not just higher, but doubled reading and writing scores for standardized testing in grades third to sixth (DeNisco, “Year-round schooling gains popularity.”). Standardized testing can help us determine an average skill level for a school district or even an entire state, allowing for us to have the ability to grant funding for where it will be put to best use. Having year round schooling would also award us the ability of getting the most out of our education.…

One obstacle would be the costs of year-round schools. Since the school, never officially has an off period, maintenance on the school buildings can be difficult. “Many argue that implementing year-round schooling would be too costly, as it would lead to increased spending on teacher and staff salaries…,” (O’Sullivan 411). Schools are already having to limit their spending and cut back on things that they don’t feel is necessary, but with the addition of these schools helping out in the long run on children’s education, then I think it's something that must be done. Another is that cities where tourism is high would not be in favor of this program due to the fact that less people would be vacationing during their peak months.…
