Well kids won’t know what’s right from wrong if they’re simply isolated from everyone else. The typical detention in the U.S. requires a student to report to a designated area in the school at a certain time and remain there for an extended period of time. During this time, the child may have work to complete or they could simply sit there until the time is over. It only becomes a matter of …show more content…
One: actually reflect on why you’re in detention in the first place and try to fix it without a counselor or teacher supporting you, or two: acknowledge that that was a complete waste of your time and forget about the reason you were in detention in the first place. Considering that most students participate in an extracurricular activity that extends their social skills, losing time to not be able to participate in them is only doing them more harm than good. Missing out on the opportunity to engage with other kids will damage their ability to connect with people since they’re doing their own time behind the classroom walls.
Of course, punishment comes with a price. For noble schools, the price of detention is five dollars, but can skyrocket with every demerit.
Noble schools claim to say that the price discourages kids from bad behavior, but this doesn’t save the parent’s wallets from this detention disaster. If a student accumulates more than twelve for simply “chewing gum” or “missing materials”, a mandatory $140 behavior improvement course is required. A waiver is available, but most of these low income families can’t cover the waived fee and are forced to move their child from schools. The child’s behavior remains unfazed and their actions continue without being
