Erich Maria Remarque, the author, is a famous novelist who wrote primarily on the horror of war. All Quiet On The Western Front is the story of a young man who enlists in the German army during World War 1 and is faced with numerous atrocities as he fights in the trenches. The young man, Paul, quickly learned that maybe it wasn’t the other soldiers he was fighting who were the enemy, but instead was the people leading them. Most important to my project is the repeated symbol of men transforming to animals in the face of extreme danger.
