Veterans Day is a national holiday dedicated to making sure military veterans get the proper respect they are due, it is also a day for all Americans to remember the sacrifices made by the members of our armed forces, past and present. These sacrifices are the reason you are able to live where you want, buy what you like, and to even criticize the government publicly. To show appreciation for all soldiers, Congress, at the urging of veterans service organizations, amended the Act of 1938 by striking out the word "Armistice" and inserting in its place the word "Veterans."
