Why Veterans Are Important

Improved Essays
The question being asked of me is “Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future?” Veterans are important to me because I live with two of them and I have a lot of them in my family. Without them, I wouldn’t know the reason why we have people sacrificing themselves for our country. My Grandpa, Roy Noble, always said that “War is not good but fighting for our country is,” I didn’t really understand that until I realized without them we wouldn’t have a free country. Britain would have taken over and we would have a queen instead of a president, or something like that.
All veterans are the same, but there are many different types of Veterans. There are war veterans, they are known as Government Issue made to go to any other country

Why are Veterans America's heroes. Veterans do so much for us and our nation, risking their lives and leaving their families so we can keep ours. There are approximately 22 million veterans living in the U.S. today, that is around 7.3% of all living Americans today. Veterans also make up 12% of the homeless adults, which is very sad because they fought so hard in the war for this country and we repay them with no homes, food, or water. In the war there are many things you risk.…

With the termination of World War II in 1945, millions of military veterans flooded the United States with hopes and ambitions for the future. However, these veterans required assistance in order to achieve their goals. Long before the end of the war, the thirty-second president of the United States, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, and his advisors were already planning post wartime programs to assist veterans in an attempt to correct the mistreatment of war veterans throughout history. Over the course of the one hundred and fifty years between 1780 and 1930, governmental assistance provided to veterans was limited to pensions awarded to Union soldiers after the Civil War, land grants bestowed on Revolutionary War Veterans, and cash bonuses endowed on World War I doughboys (Reagan, “Roosevelt Signs”).…

A veteran to me is a patriotic, unselfish, brave, and courageous person, who would sacrifice time from their families to serve and protect our nation. As Jeff Miller once said, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Veterans from every country have served throughout many wars. They have put their blood, sweat, and effort into doing the right and beneficial thing for their nation. Being a veteran means not only to serve in the military, but it means to have the selflessness and courage to go off to war to ensure the freedom of the nation.…

For years there have been soldiers who have been injured in the line of battle while defending our country. Some have been injured to a point where they do not have the ability to walk or have lost limbs in the line of duty. Despite the benefits veterans are currently eligible for and receiving, the Veteran’s Administration should be doing more for veterans. For some veterans it takes them several months just to get checked up at the VA. “Hundreds of veterans have waited months for medical attention at the VA.…

Veterans are not getting the care that they need. To begin, veterans in cities have to wait a long period of time to get the appointment that they need. Individuals who use VA Regional office can wait up to twelve to eighteen before getting an appointment ("introduction to do Veterans receive adequate health care"1). This is too long of a wait period for some because, some of the veterans have life threatening injuries compared to the common cold. Also, many veterans are not receiving any service.…

We keep Lincoln’s promise for the veterans by, paying for their GI Bill, if they are fighting in Iraq, Vietnam or something, and something really bad happens to them, like them breaking/losing their arms or legs, or if they go into a coma or something, the government pays for that, because they care about our veterans too. Whenever the veterans get home, we can throw parties for them whenever they walk through the door, to make them feel like they are welcomed back, and that they are loved. We would probably invite the people that they cared/loved about the most. When my uncle got back from serving in the military, we threw a party for him and the people that were there were Me, My Grandma, Grandpa, Mom, Dad, Kaden(My Brother), Drake(My Brother), Cousin(Brady- His Son), Cousin(Djerrah), Cousin(Xevo), Cousin(Gavin- His Son), Cousin(Hannah- His Daughter), Cousin(Cousin), Enzzo(Cousin)…

The Effects of War on Veterans in Afghanistan and Iraq More than half of the 2.6 million Americans dispatched to fight the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq struggle with physical or mental health problems and often begin to feel disconnected from civilian life, deriving from deployment. As stated in the article “After the Wars: A legacy of pain and pride”, written by Rajiv Chandrasekaran and published by The Washington Post. The conditions of being deployed and serving for our country can conclude in widespread consequences within soldiers in which if no help is provided, could become permanently detrimental. Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD), Military Sexual Trauma (MST), and an increase in suicides are some of…

    Veterans Day Essay

The politicization of war has had unfortunate spillovers into our civilian views of veterans, as people increasingly and erroneously place the responsibility for war on service members themselves, failing to dissociate the policy maker from the public servant whose only commitment is to the defense of a country, not to a particular figure. You need not endorse a war's mission to honor those who made sacrifices in the course of it. No one can provide greater cautions about the dangers of war than those who have borne its personal costs. Again, only through meeting members of the veteran community can we begin to understand their role in society and see them not as subjects of a political debate but rather as paragons of service. For these reasons and more, as civilians we must make a concerted effort to engage our peers who are veterans.…
