Why Teens Should Not Run Away

The thought of running away often goes through teenagers minds after an argument or disagreement with their parents. Most teenagers see running away as an escape from a violent household. Teenagers just think in the moment and do not think about what would happen after they run away. They do not think about where they are going to live or how they are going to support themselves. Some teens just leave their homes for a week and realize it is hard living on their own, so they return back to their parents. Others do not go back home because to them suffering is better than living with their parents. In the United States today, many teens are runaways or are planning to run away and are ignoring the effects that come after running away. Teenagers should not ignore the consequences from running away because it results in teens becoming involved in dangerous crimes, becoming depressed and becoming victims of abuse. When adolescents run away, they put themselves in harm’s way. Running away causes them to get involved in crimes such as stealing, selling drugs and prostitution. Drug lords see struggling teens as easy targets to make money for them. Teens take these offers because to them it is easy money to make and will help them provide for themselves. Teens do not realize that they are putting themselves in danger when they decide to take offers to sell drugs. Teenagers often get caught up in the rush that comes with selling drugs that can either kill them or land them in prison. Sometimes they can get into debt with the drug lords and become a target for the drug lord. They can also get pressured into taking the drug they are dealing and become addicted.
