9/25/2016 Why Not Go to College? Going to college in this day and age is viewed as a must by a lot of people. Not only teachers, but parents and businesses as well. Even with all this pressure to get a higher education, there still remains a minority who still insist that college education isn’t or shouldn’t be a requirement to make a decent living, myself included. There are probably as many reasons as there are people, but let’s try to narrow it down a bit and take things one step at a time. Why are people against the push for college in the first place? Well, it’s not so much that they’re against pushing for college, and more that they’re against pushing for college in jobs and careers that shouldn’t require that kind of education. While it is true that getting a college degree can increase your pay in jobs that wouldn’t require one, but that only raises the question of why someone would want to go to college only to land a job as a cashier. Now on the surface this may seem like a step backwards as to why people don’t want to go to college, but it’s a reason in and of itself. Some people have a path in life they want to go down, and college may not lead them any farther or closer to their goal so they decide not to go as they find no use for it at the moment. I myself am very capable of going to college, yet the way my career works doesn’t require that I go to a college, only that I provide for myself and my family with enough time in my day to pursue my passion as an artist. Not every reason for not going to college is purely logical or explainable. Sometimes it’s as simple as, “I’m not going to college because I just don’t want to go to
