In the world today there are a total of 300,000 child soldiers in use. Not only that but also, 40% of militias, military, and terrorist groups use children . The problem with all these child soldiers is not only getting rid of them but also whether or not they should not be punished. They should be given amnesty because, they are forced into this life, put on narcotics by the leaders, and brainwashed to believe what they're doing is right.

Many children are forced into this life due to things like poverty or peer pressure. Nevertheless, most of the time they are abducted by these organizations. For example, the website Foreign Policy. According to Drug Free World.Org states “the drug Cocaine can cause things like hallucinations, anxiety, paranoia, psychosis, and increased frequency of risky behavior,” (The truth about Cocaine). Leaders use these drugs in order to make the children less aware and more willing of the actions they are doing. An article by Vision org.com stated “they would do just about anything that was ordered,” (Steel). These drugs invade their minds so that the leaders could easily take advantage of them. For example, if they decide to stay in the military group, and begin recruiting other child soldiers. A man named Dominic Ongwen who is a senior member of the Lord's Resistance Army is currently in trial for war crimes. The article Kony’s Killers states “it is the first time in the history of ICC where the alleged perpetrator himself was a child soldier,” (Okiror). Being able to commit the horrible crimes forced on yourself to others makes you more than guilty, it makes you a monster. Even though he was under pressure just like the children he was a grown man who had a common sense of what was going on. So at that point being pressured is not a reason to commit these horrific war
