Why My Horse Is Important To Me Essay

I believe that everyone has at least one childhood event that remains etched in their memory as they grow up. One of my clearest memories growing up is the first time I fell of a horse. I can still picture the scene in my head, starting with the horse spooking and running towards the fence, to the point where I fell off and could see the hooves right above my head. As a six-year-old child this fall should have scared me from riding a horse again, however it ended up having the opposite effect. It made me love this sport, and I was determined to continue riding, despite the reluctance of my parents. Ten years later, as I put my foot in the stirrup and swing myself onto the saddle, I am reminded of the splendor of this sport that is the bond …show more content…
It has made me realise the importance and the benefits achieved through hard work and regular practice. Shortcuts do not lead to success, but step-by-step improvement through practice and dedication help you achieve yours goals.

Having to control a horse, this sport has taught me to have confidence in myself as my horse depends upon me. It has also helped making me confident about my leadership skills. Part of being a leader, are my duties and responsibilities towards horses. I have learnt that no relationship can be one-sided and that only when I take good care of my horse, make sure he is fed well, groom him everyday and make sure that his stable is hygienic and comfortable will he be happy and willing to work with me as a team.

My love for horses incited me to help rehabilitate a rescue pony. Found on the roadside, this pony was terrified of nearly everything when she came to the stable yard. Working to help her get used to the environment and be less frightened, whether it is just walking around or lunging her, I have learnt that working with an animal requires immense patience. Throughout the years I have learnt that patience is virtue which helps me not only during my riding lessons but only during my school lessons and proves to be a great asset while I am working in a
