A veteran to me is a patriotic, unselfish, brave, and courageous person, who would sacrifice time from their families to serve and protect our nation. As Jeff Miller once said, “The willingness of America’s Veterans to sacrifice for our country has earned them our lasting gratitude.” Veterans from every country have served throughout many wars. They have put their blood, sweat, and effort into doing the right and beneficial thing for their nation. Being a veteran means not only to serve in the military, but it means to have the selflessness and courage to go off to war to ensure the freedom of the nation.…

The question being asked of me is “Why Veterans are Important to Our Nation’s History and Future?” Veterans are important to me because I live with two of them and I have a lot of them in my family. Without them, I wouldn’t know the reason why we have people sacrificing themselves for our country. My Grandpa, Roy Noble, always said that “War is not good but fighting for our country is,” I didn’t really understand that until I realized without them we wouldn’t have a free country. Britain would have taken over and we would have a queen instead of a president, or something like that.…

America is the land of the free, because of the brave. Americans enjoy many freedoms because of the democracy our ancestors fought very hard to establish. Freedom summarizes what being an American is about, but it’s not what an American is. An American is someone who is brave enough to do something even though the punishment is severe, someone who sees opportunity and stops at nothing to achieve it, and someone who doesn’t take the easy way out. Bravery is part of the definition of an American.…
