Why is Identical Banned there are many reasons books are banned.a good example of a banned book is a book called “Identical”by Ellen Hopkins.this book is banned because of its material you will understand the more i talk about it. a book can be banned for many different reasons violence, foul language, sexual abuses, drugs, rape. By examming this book and researching this book I understand why this book is banned. the first reason this book is banned is because of the sexual content in this book, in the book the father, named Raymond, sexualy abuses one of the twins, kaeleigh, for along time.she dont tell anyone about it because she wanted to please everyone. the other twin, her name is Raeanne, she longs for the attention for her father and…
Books are banned by schools/ associations. One specific book that I have read is We All Fall Down by Robert Cormier. Books can be banned for nine common reasons these are racial issues, encouragement of damaging life’s, blasphemous, dialogue, sexual situations or dialogue, violence/ negativity, presence of witchcraft, religious afflictions, political bias, and age inappropriate. There are many more reasons in which books can be banned for, my book is banned for vandalism, revenge, and alcoholism. By examining the alcoholism, profanity, and vandalism, it is clear that this books should be banned.…
As Marcus Tullius Cicero, a Roman philosopher, once said, "A room without books is like a body without a soul.” Books have the capability to be any person's escape from reality and no book should ever be subjected to the term "banned". Every book has at least one good thing to offer, no matter how great or small. All the reader has to do is give the book a chance and find that one thing. The novel The Catcher in the Rye, by J.D. Salinger, is one such book that should be taught in high school.…
During this instance in 1997, the book was put into the advanced reading list which made it be censored, instead of banned. Even though these are the reasons that were said, there are plenty more that make the book harmful. The fact that the main character is continuously in abusive relationships where she is “happy” until something “bad” happens. For example, at one point she was in an mentally abusive relationship and when she was threatened to be killed, she realized she had to leave because it wasn’t “healthy”. This shows that she was okay with being mentally brought down until she was threatened.…
The reasons for its being banned are gore, horror, and cannibalism. The first reason my story is banned is because of gore. One example of gore in my book is in the story The Dead Hand where it describes how Tom Pattison gets his hand ripped off by “The Dead Hand” and how “...there was nothing but a ragged stump oozing blood.” Also, in that story, there is a very gory picture of some creature with flesh falling off of his…
I do not think this book should be banned from an educational environment because it is truly a classic. A few of the reasons it shouldn’t be banned is because it can increase students vocabulary, have students think about what is going on during the plot, and influence learners to treat everyone with respect. Education centers can better students’ minds by allowing this book to be on the shelves in their library. When students…
These books were challenged and banned for ridiculous reasons. The reason Huckleberry Finn was banned was because its use of the N-word made students uncomfortable reading it (Akkoc 1). Other books of it’s kind have been challenged and banned for similar reasons.…
In my opinion it should be because of the racism, violence, and explicit language. racism although isn't the main reason this book is banned it has a major factor. For example there is the use of racial slurs like the “N” word. As well as the fact that an african man had been beaten and crippled. In this book there is talk about african americans being seen as property rather that people.…
Often times parents will challenge a book for its language and the violence present in the book, because they want to keep their child innocent and protected from the wrongs of the world. While it is a understandable concern, it is ridiculous considering what the average high schooler sees and hears in the halls of their school on a daily basis. Parents like this wanted to ban A…
There are the main things such as being sexually explicit, having vulgar language, or not being suited for that age group. Then there are others that are banned for the talk of the extraterrestrial and witchcraft. In the many years people have been challenging books, many have made it to court such as Minarcini v. Strongsville City School District, Mozert v. Hawkins County Board of Education, and one of the most famous, Board of Education v. Pico. All of these cases were brought up because someone had a problem with the writing of a novel. Pico was mainly brought up for religious reasons against books such as Go Ask Alice by Beatrice Sparks and Down These Mean Streets by Piri Thomas.…
I would like to disagree why books are constantly being banned or censored but no one can person really have a good understanding why they are banned. People say that books influence our thinking a lot, well maybe too a little too much. Somebody assassinated John Lennon for being a phony which was a word used by the main character a lot in the Catcher in the Rye. When the police asked why well the assassins showed the book Catcher in the Rye by J.D. Salinger. Maybe this is why this book was absolutely hated for its time, I can see maybe why it was banned.…
The books can be very graphic in nature and have questionable topics. They talk about real life issues like suicide in teens or of alcohol or racism or drug use. The first amendment is freedom of press, and means anyone can write something on anything they want. Some people say YA books are too traumatizing for teen. Some are banned because of political or religious views.…
Defending the Popularity Papers, a Quest for an Inclusive Classroom. Adolph Hitler once said, “Words build bridges to unexplored regions.” Indeed, books can educate, inform, entertain, help you generate ideas and introduce you to new parts of the world. Consequently, if the banning of books is allowed, one can only imagine the vast amounts of knowledge, experience and perspectives we as a society would be missing out on.…
I Know Why the Caged Birds Sing I Know Why the Caged Birds Sing written by Maya Angelou is considered to be a banned book. Middle School/ High School students should be allowed to read the book because it a thrilling autobiography that has many life lessons and is based on a true story. Many people complain the book shows too much sexual activity throughout the book.…
Fortunately, for every group pushing for bans on literature, there are organizations that fight for this freedom. One such organization is the American Civil Liberties Union. In the year 2000, when discussing the topic of book banning, the organization stated that, “Permitting restraints on literature sets the stage for attacks on all expression that is artistically or politically controversial or that portrays unpleasant realities of life” (American Civil Liberties Union). Although some books may contain graphic violence or sexual content, and therefore of course should be kept out of the hands of children, I’d like to think that these widespread en masse bans of such literature are a poor way to go about it. It’s not as if middle or high school students are incapable of understanding and comprehending dark or more adult subject matter.…
