Marilyn Monroe is one of the most well known actresses and models even fifty-four years after her death, she is still known for her hourglass body and breathless voice, but Marilyn Monroe wasn’t always Marilyn Monroe. She was born June 1, 1926 as Norma Jean Mortensen, daughter of Gladys Monroe Baker Mortensen. Gladys was mentally ill, widowed, a film cutter at RKO Studios, and abandoned Marilyn when she was barely a child. It is not certain when Marilyn was abandoned but in 1937, Grace and Doc Goddard took care of Marilyn for a few years and they were even paid weekly by her mother to raise her.
