Leonardo da Vinci (April 15, 1452-May 2, 1519) was an Italian polymath, having been a scientist, engineer, mathematician, painter, sculptor, architect, writer, etc. Leonard da Vinci was born as the illegitimate son of Piero da Vinci and a peasant girl named Caterina in Vinci, Italy, just outside of Florence. Leonardo was educated by Verrocchio, a Florentine painter. He is often considered to be one of the greatest painters of all-time. Leonardo da Vinci has frequently been described as the model of the “Renaissance man,” a man whose curiosity was equaled only by his powers of invention.
