Teamwork and leadership are two very important aspects in any career, not just healthcare; but in a healthcare career, teamwork and leadership are very important while taking care of patients. Teamwork allows healthcare workers to provide the best possible care quality care for patients according to their needs. Working as a team, workers can educate the patient about their healthcare options and help them make the best decision regarding their health. Working together can also help the team get work done in a shorter amount of time than a person working by themselves. A team will be most successful in completing their tasks if everyone knows their role as a team member and has developed good interpersonal relationships with other team members. …show more content…
A leader is a person on the team whose role is to do just that. A leader has many responsibilities including monitoring the progress of the team and motivating all team members to work together towards the established goal. Some people say that people are born a leader but that is not true. Anybody can become a leader if they evolve the characteristics of a leader into themselves. Some of these characteristics include: understanding own strengths and weaknesses, displaying self-confidence and being willing to take stand, being able to compromise and giving credit to others. There are three types of leaders: Democratic, Laissez-faire, and Autocratic. A democratic leader is one who listens to everyone’s opinions and then bases his or her decision on what is best for the group. A laissez-faire leader is a person who doesn’t enforce many rules and allow everyone to function individually. An autocratic leader is a dictator who makes all of the decisions and what he or she says is what is done without even considering anyone else’s opinion. Usually a democratic leader is the leader that is the best because it he or she encourages the participation of all members of the group members. In contrast, on rare occasions, a autocratic leader may be the best for the group to maintain under control. A good leader is very important to make the group work effectively.
