The Bible is the word of God. It explains to us God’s purpose with all creation. Genesis explains how and why God created what he did. This book of the Bible has always been fascinating to me. To think that this whole world was created by God is just so amazing. Creating things such as land and water, man and woman, animals of all kinds, the trees and different plants, along with so much more is a beautiful thing. Making sense of the Bible can take a lot of thought and concentration; I know for me it does. One major thing I learned from reading Genesis and listening to our lectures is that we are not the original audience. I never thought of it that way before. We have to think what the word of God meant to the audience it was first intended for in order for it to make sense to us. God chose Abraham and his descendants to sustain the faith of the people in Him. God made Abraham many promises throughout Genesis because Abraham obeyed God. God chose to bless his creation through one person, and that one person was Abraham. While he chose Abraham to bring forth redemption to his creation, we also learned that Abraham was not always faithful to God. He was selfish sometimes and didn’t always do as God asked. A covenant community is a group of religious followers that bind themselves to one another and to the whole group by agreement. The Israelites are what I thought of when I thought of a covenant

The Mosaic Covenant was referred to as the Sinai Covenant, but because Moses was the divine leader of Israel at the time, it is commonly referred to as the Mosaic Covenant. The Covenant is similar to other ancient covenants, such as the one God made with Abraham, in that the agreement is between a superiority figure (God) and a subject(s) or people (the people of Israel at Mount Sinai). However, the Mosaic Covenant was different from other ancient covenants, because it was conditional, in which both parties, God and the nation of Israel at Mount Sinai, agreed to fulfill their obligations. In this Covenant, God reminds his subjects of their obligation to abide by his laws. For instance, among the laws he imposes, the people shall not commit…

The Realistic Creation Story Growing up going to a Catholic school, and being a very religious person I have studied, and read The Bible, I have gone as far as tattooing Psalm 23:4 on my body. So, you could say that I have a personal connection to what is written in The Bible. Saying that, from as young as I can remember to my age now, the creation story in Genesis has been a story that is repeated often, but the creation story has always confused me a great deal. The reason being, is due to the fact that I see a deeper meaning to what God is doing in the creation story, but also how realistic can this story possibly be?…

God informs Abraham that he would become “the father of many nations” and would receive a vast land (Genesis 17:5-8 NIV). The completion of this prophecy depended on Abraham's free decision to trust and have faith in God. Many free decisions would lead to his descendants leaving egypt, because Moses freely chose to trust and obey God (Exodus 3:18-4:17 NIV). Nowhere in these passages indicate that God forced these decisions, in fact Moses and God argued for a bit before Moses freely chose to obey…

Christians pray to and worship God in more languages than any other religion in the world (Netland and Ott 15). This can be attributed to the gospel’s power to overcome all cultural boundaries. As heirs of God’s kingdom our truth is no longer found in our worldly identity, but in our creator (ESV Gal 3:28). Unfortunately, as fallen humans, it is impossible to completely separate our own personal understanding of the world from God’s infallible truth. For example, when we worship God we can not help but have our worldly perspectives affect our understanding of what it is meant to look like..…

One of the things I love about Christianity is that it’s so interesting. The Bible truly is one of the most interesting books that I have read. A lot of people are so interested in books like Vampire Diaries or Hercules because of the action, adventure, romance, and supernatural things like blood covenants and spells being broken. When we think about the blood covenant, it is the best story about a Hero who came to save all the people from the bondage of sin. Above the fantastic story line, it’s actually true!…
