If issues arise, it is very important to notify your professor sooner rather than later. If you have a deadline and something beyond your control happens, letting them know ahead can potentially keep you from getting a failing grade. I believe if you communicate ahead of time with your professor it will show them that you take their course seriously and that you are well managed.
