of criminal profiling is important for both the general public as well as law enforcement. Further,
proper use of criminal profiling is a leading method by which law enforcement can reduce
recidivism. Knowledge on how each type of profiling is conducted is important because misuse
or a misguided procedure for different forms of profiling may lead to faulty results.

Also, because these
processes are so effective, they reduce the amount of offenders that might be roaming the streets
by a significant amount. Hence, the more people are aware of criminal profiling, and the
multifaceted purposes of it, the greater sense of security they might be able to enjoy in their day
to day lives.
Using the Power Point I outlined some basic principles of criminal profiling. I began
with a definition. Most people are familiar with racial profiling which may have given other
types of profiling a bad name. However, most are not familiar with criminal profiling as an
investigative tool and my purpose in making this presentation is to make more people aware of
this investigative technique, which very often is used to solve crimes. However, I also point out
that criminal profiling does not apply in all crime cases.
Criminal profilers look at the implications or psychological suggestions that might be
drawn from the crime scene. Based on these inferences, investigators begin to create a
psychological picture of the offender(s). This is helpful in understanding criminal behavior
