College is not a waste of time, it is a solid way to become successful in our day and age but a huge hindrance for people would be the cost of going to college. Sanford Ungar says, “the cost of American higher education is spiraling out of control.” (Ungar 231). Although Ungar is true when he says that college American higher education costs are spiraling out of control, he doesn’t state what could be done to fix the problem or help the problem. In order to control the problem of tuition costs in the United States, the government has to get involved by putting more money towards the education system. Another solution would be for big businesses and small business to get involved in creating more scholarships and grants for students to apply for and receive. Third, Universities can find a way to reduce their spending on certain things in order to be able to give more money to prospective students in addition to the more money that should be received from the government. …show more content…
Towson university’s tuition per semester is $10,244, which is $20,488 per school year for students that live in Maryland, for students that are out of state have to pay $16,047 per semester which is $32,094 per year. The average annual income for an American citizen is $26,695 (How Much do Americans Earn 1). The average person makes less than the cost of tuition in the United States and yet the costs of tuition are still uncontrollably increasing that is a huge problem. The government stepping up and putting more money into the educational system is one of the biggest steps in making college more affordable and with the upcoming election it looks like the candidates have the intentions of addressing this issue because according to Doug Belkin from The Wall Street Journal, “Hillary Clinton has
